Format Foundry is an independent type studio releasing its first retail family. We designed the identity and the specimen site that introduces it to the world.
The Challenge
A foundry’s brand has to disappear behind the type while still being memorable. Too much personality competes with the fonts; too little, and nothing sticks.
Strategy
We made the identity a frame, not a picture — a precise wordmark and a specimen system that lets the typeface perform without interference.
Design Process
The specimen site is built as an interactive proof: adjustable weights, live text, and feature toggles, all wrapped in a grid that stays out of the way.
Outcome
Format’s debut family sold strongly in its first month, and the specimen site has become a reference other small foundries point to.
